Alex and I: A Plane Conversation!

Alex and I: A Plane Conversation!

Hey,

I hope you’re doing well! It’s Sunday morning, around 9am, and I’m seated on my hotel room bed listening to the new Swans album titled Birthing which came out last Friday! What a treat!!!!! Beside my bed there’s a massive window where I can see the wonders of the Sian Ka’an preservation jungle, where so much history of our American continent occurred for thousands of years prior to the New World discoveries of the 15th century.

So blessed and fortunate to be here with my best friends Alex and Isabel as we’re here to rest, enjoy life but also to have a look at the year 2025 as we’re hitting the mid-year point, and we have a lot to plan before it ends. This is something we’ve been doing for so many years, and it’s a crucial point in our year as, more often than not, our craziest ideas always arrive as we are walking on the beach… Here, time stops, and we want our creative spirits to connect with what seems impossible in the first place!

I will tell you more about this next week, as we’re here for two weeks total and we just arrived on Friday, because I had such an incredible conversation with Alex on my way here, and I thought it was priceless for me to share it with you! :)

We left Drummondville at 5am on Friday morning as we were all so thrilled to leave for Mexico following what has been such an intense month of May! You should check out Alex’s newsletter if you missed it (here).

Alex and I have a tradition where as we’re seated in the plane and the crew comes to offer something to drink, we order a Scotch and we proclaim something we want to see happening as we’re heading some places…! But this time it turned out to be a little different..!

As our glasses were being poured down, we started a conversation about the fine line between being an artist and an entertainer. This conversation started following our incredible concert under the rain and the cold weather of Maastricht and how intense and really powerful this moment has been and the fact that we went back to the same venue to watch an artist we truly like, Tindersticks.

Then Alex went:

I am not here to entertain. I am here to disrupt stillness with sincerity. To offer not only noise, but presence. In a world obsessed with volume, I choose resonance.

Where others seek to perform, I seek to confess. What you hear is not music—it’s memory, exile, a return. It’s everything I couldn’t say, where words can’t find their sense, now they are bleeding through amplifiers.

I don’t tour to fill rooms. I travel to empty myself.

Like last Saturday for instance, I wanted to walk into that place not only as a stage, but as a sanctuary! Some kind of a temporary home where all of us strangers could for a moment remember how to feel. Some kind of a language for the ones who seek for more, for greater, for further and deeper.

For the ones like me, who’ve lost their names in the noise and are learning how to listen again. I offer no answers—only invitations. To sit with your sorrow. To confront your chaos. To believe in the quiet revolt of tenderness.

Every song is a ritual. Every record, a map. Every silence, sacred.

But what I like the most are those moments after the concert where people share really deep and personal insights to me! People kept telling me things like "You are not alone. Not in this. Not ever again." It was so powerful and beautiful! Keeps me truly humble and makes me love this even more every time even though it always terrorizes me since it has to be real, authentic, not about me, my ambitions, my desires, but about us, and this needs to be redefined every time we step on stage! And this is the true beauty of it all!

The toast was, finally: To meaningful resonance!

Our time here will be meaningful as we’ve never been that aligned with who we are and what where we want to go…! I have Never seen Alex being that free and alive! He was always seeking for answers, now he seeks to be! Thanks to you all!

Let’s be great to one another!

Your Host and Chief Operator,
Jeff
