Green Room Series, Week #6 - Alex Henry Foster, One Year Later…!

Hey,

I hope you’re doing well! Guess what?! It’s Sunday morning, and I’m back in the van’s front seat as we’re leaving the Netherlands to head back to Cologne! Alex’s playlist is on, and we’re in the French songs part of it all, so the sound is quite loud, and everyone’s singing those funky, funny, and sexy 60s France-driven vibes we all like so much in the band, except for Sef! In his case, it might be because they were using more classical-driven strings than fuzz guitars in those years in France! Oh well!

These songs have been a huge part of this tour thus far, as they’re always bringing such an amazing vibe in the van and beyond. Creating cheeky and funny rhymes has become the new black on this tour…! It's priceless to witness the pure joy of simply singing those lyrics about self-emancipation and freedom through flirting, make-up, mini skirts, and cheesy rhymes, making us all laugh. All of this comes with very rich and incredibly well-composed post-classical-meets-pop music.

This blend is simply too good and too strange not to like! Those simple moments come with being North American francophones navigating throughout Europe after what has been such an unforgettable week around music, traveling, friendship, and one of the most important birthday celebrations of my life for a precious friend living in Tangier! He is a French friend from Lyon who also deeply loves that kind of music, especially its lyrical uniqueness, which kinda got lost as the 90s came along! It might be why those songs truly resonate even more powerfully this morning as we’re heading back home to Cologne…!

“Can music be more exciting than a quarterfinal? Yes, that's very possible. Alex Henry Foster & The Long Shadows blow up Conincx Pop. We had to wait an extra year, but man, oh man, was this good!”

On this same note, it’s so beautiful to simply witness Alex being so alive and well! Last night, just like right now in the van, was another great demonstration of this, as we’ve been talking with the festival organizers about it all. I always like to see when people come to see Alex before the shows, making sure he’s fine and well! Here’s what they shared on their Instagram profile after the show:

"Can music be more exciting than a quarterfinal? Yes, that's very possible. Alex Henry Foster & The Long Shadows blow up Conincx Pop. We had to wait an extra year, but man, oh man, was this good!”

Like Françoise Hardy said: "Refuser le Bonheur parce qu’il génère le malheur revient à refuser de vivre sachant que l’on va mourir!"

"To refuse happiness because it generates unhappiness is like refusing to live knowing that one will die!"

Let’s live life to the fullest no matter what life throws at us! Thanks for reminding us all of this beautiful truth, Alex, which sometimes comes with a steep price to pay!
