About “Calling Out!”
The song describes Alex's reluctant process of re-imagining his life and recovery after a double-graft heart surgery by embracing something new: an awakening brought about by the care of those close to him.
“The ‘call-out’ came from people’s affection and their healing love: one that led me from being frozen to awakened and finally risen, a process that could only take place once I decided to embrace who I had become and to accept the new reality of what it implied.” Alex admits “Calling Out!” was the most challenging song to create and was the last song to be completed on the album due to his insistence that he revisit his pain to make the purest, rawest, most intimate version of the song. He considers the song “an essential element to the narrative cohesion of the whole record.”
